Various activities, including bird watching, rock climbing and hiking, will be held on Sunday to mark the annual Turahalli Day.

Cyclists, runners, trekkers, conservationists and other like-minded people will come together at the Turahalli state forest and take part in events such as bird watching, rock climbing, cycling, hiking, running, photography, butterfly watching, nature walk, adventure sports etc. People can also spend the day relaxing or even performing yoga.  Sohan Pavaluru, a climber and part of the organising committee of the event, said that the aim is to create awareness about forest conservation.

“The objective of the event is to get people close to nature. Initially, we were just a group of climbers when we started this.Gradually, over the years, momentum picked up and many people began participating.

Now, many Bangaloreans and locals attend this event. Through the event we also educate locals, villagers and apartment dwellers in the vicinity to protect the area from encroachment and other environmental threats,” he said.

Information about the festival is available online and over 800 people have already shown interest in the event.

Turahalli Day will be observed from 7am on December 6. Participants are urged to carry their own food and trash bags. People from all walks of life, irrespective of age, can be a part of the festival.
