Garbage crisis rears its ugly head again

The garbage situation in the City has worsened yet again with stinking waste piling up in almost all the prominent places.

Sarakki, Chickpet, Sultanpet, Mamulpet, Avenue Road, K R Market area, Kalasipalyam, Shivajinagar, Ulsoor, Banashankari, Yaarab Nagar, Kadirenahalli, Uttarahalli, Yelachenahalli, Aarehalli, Hosakerehalli, Ittamadu and Vidyapeetha are among the areas worst hit by the garbage crisis.

It could not be ascertained what triggered the fresh crisis but part of the problem lies with the weather. The rains have dampened garbage due to which the contractors are finding it difficult to burn it – the only method to do away with the waste.

The effect of the situation was felt at the BBMP head office when BBMP commissioner G Kumar Naik had a marathon meeting on Tuesday evening with all the officials and engineers dealing with Solid Waste Management. 

Directions issuedThe commissioner reportedly issued a slew of directions on effective disposal of waste, checking protests at landfills or garbage processing sites and speeding up works at garbage processing units under construction.
