The City police are planning to open a Facebook page and a website for every police station to facilitate cooperation and participation between the police and the communities.

The  citizen participation would make the policing effective.

Speaking at the Crime Prevention Month here on Tuesday, Police Commissioner N S Megharikh said, “This time around, the crime prevention month is focussed on crime against women and children.

With the crime against the women and the children is on the rise, people should be more aware and be educated in order to prevent any kind of crime against them. We want to make sure that people should get to know that the police will not tolerate any kind of crime committed against the women and children.”

“We will put in our best efforts to arrest the accused and make sure that they will be awarded with a stringent punishment. For this, we require the public help,” added Megharikh.

DG & IGP Om Prakash, said, “The public should act as eyes and ears of the police. If they alert the police as soon as they spot anything suspicious, it would help in preventing crime.”

“There is this notion that police do not visit the spot on time and people talk about lapses in the department. But it should be considered that the City is growing at a rapid pace. Also, the population is rising drastically and we need more police personnel to combat the crime and maintain law and order,” said B N Garudachar, former DGP said.

As part of Mega City project, around CCTV cameras have been fixed at over 150 points/ venues that fall under the jurisdiction of 16 police stations in the central business district
