There are seven of them. Goddess 1 is CEO and single mom Sandhya Mridul, spitting fire in a boardroom full of half-witted male subordinates.

Goddess 2 is photographer Sarah Jane Dias who is on a break, cooling her temper after a bitter fairness cream shoot.

Goddess 3 Amrit Maghera plays a British-Indian wannabe Bollywood star, rehearsing corny lines in the bed and shower.

Goddess 4: Struggling singer Anushka Manchanda, waiting for that elusive break and crooning her blues away with a guitar.

Goddess 5: Trophy wife Pavleen Gujral, bold enough to confront oglers at gym but “coy” enough to be dominated by an unreasonable husband.

Goddess 6: Maid Laxmi who has the balls to catch a lecher by his crotch.

And Goddess 7 is Tannishtha Chatterjee, the activist who is out on the streets.

All these feisty women come together for a wedding in Goa, and it’s fun to watch them bond over some not-so-girlie things.

From gender discrimination to bauxite mining to sex (normal, oral or gay), they discuss everything under the sun, while the censor board happily mutes the generous F-dose. The women laugh, cry, drink, smoke, dance, strip down to bikini, and even get to handle a gun.

It’s interesting to watch how the so-called cultural guardians — here, Adil Hussain, as the cop sizing up a rape scene — peer up and pin the blame on the woman’s short skirt.
A lot many issues on misogyny may sound cliched, but the women deserve credit for some uninhibited and “out of the box” moments. The bonding is natural and easy on the eye — be it when one of them comes out of the closet, or when the hunk next door sends all of them to an orgasmic high (well, almost) with his shirtless car wash.

Angry Indian Goddesses charts an unprecedented path. It would have set a benchmark had it not settled for a mainstream climax.
