TEDx talks gaining in popularity in City

Last Updated 07 December 2015, 19:16 IST

The worldwide popularity of TEDx talks and events has spurred organisation of such programmes in the City by various colleges, corporates and individuals.

Joining the fray in the last few years are also a few schools and school students.
PU students of CMR National PU College, Kalyan Nagar, are an excited bunch these days as they are about to organise their first-ever TEDx talk on December 12 called the TEDxYouth@Brookefield.

Sidharth, a PU student and one of the lead organisers, said: “We will be one of the handful of schools in the City to hold a TEDx event. We contacted a few other schools to find out the ins and outs of conducting such an event. A great group of speakers is scheduled to speak and hopefully it will be a good show,” he said.

Mallya Aditi International School in Yelahanka holds the distinction of being the first school in the country to have organised a TEDx event four years ago, according to grade 12 student Divyanshu Pachisia. Pachisia was the lead organiser of the a TEDx event that took place in his school this year on December 6. In fact, since 2012, TEDx talk has been an annual feature at the school.

“Students now take it for granted that the event will be held in the school. It is a completely student-organised event. I was in the core team last year and this year I was the head organiser. It is a completely student-run event and for this year we were a team of 25 students from 10 to 12 grades. This was further divided into various teams with particular responsibilities such as getting in touch with speakers and organising the funding. Overall, it was a great experience,” said Pachisia.

As many as 65 TEDx events have been organised in the City since July 2010. Of these, around 10 have been organised by school students. The International School Bangalore, Varthur, organised a TEDx talk in 2012. Another TEDx event is scheduled to be organised by students of Green Wood High International School, Sarjapur Road, next year.
