Dental care clinic chain Mydentist, which was started by Mumbai-based Vikram Vora in 2010, has plans to open 50 clinics in Bengaluru by the end of the next calendar year.

It is foraying into Bengaluru by opening 10 clinics. “Our first clinic is functional in JP Nagar Phase-5, and the other nine clinics will commence soon. We want to open five clinics every month,” Vora said.

With 106 dental clinics, Mydentist functions across Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad, among others. The clinic chain raised Rs 50 crore as Series B in April 2013, from Seedfund and Asian Healthcare Fund, and it recently raised Series C of another Rs 50 crore led by LGT Venture Philanthropy.

When asked what made him launch Mydentist, Vora said, “My brother and I were dealing with dental equipment and materials business. While waiting for doctors, we also observed patients, who were dissatisfied with the huge amount of money that they have to spend, and also the waiting time to visit specialists. We started with an aim to make treatment affordable. When we commenced, not everybody believed in our idea. But we were fortunate enough to find dental doctors who still continue and grow with us.”

He said what differentiates Mydentist from other clinics is that it provides affordable quality dental care with low prices. “We also make payments easy. For instance, if the cost of treatment is Rs 18,000, one can pay through smaller EMIs,” said Vora, adding that both checkup and X-Ray are done free of cost at all the clinics, including the ones that will be set up in Bengaluru.

Mydentist has a manpower strength of 1,250 and 500 doctors work with the clinic chain. “We have seven to eight days of training programme for all doctors who join us so that there is standardisation in all our clinic chains. “We invest close to Rs 50 lakh in each outlet, including marketing, among others. We are planning an investment of Rs 25 crore in all 50 clinics in Bengaluru,” informed the CEO. He added that 150-200 doctors will come onboard to serve 50 clinics in Bengaluru.

Mydentist sees 30,000 patients every month. “Among other treatments, we are doing many root canals (cost begins from Rs 1,000) and orthodontics. In Bengaluru, we are expecting to clock 10,000-15,000 patients every month,” he said.
