JOIN USControversial Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former MP from Siwan Mohammad Shahabuddin was sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in the killing of two sons of a local trader Chandeshwar Prasad.
The verdict was pronounced by the special court judge Ajay Kumar Srivastava on Friday. The judge also held three other accused Raj Kumar Shah, Sheikh Aslam and Arif Hussain, all aides of Shahabuddin, guilty of the same offence and awarded them life term. The four accused were found guilty under Sections 302, 364A, 201 and 120 B.
The judgment comes more than 11 years after the gruesome incident took place at Siwan in 2004. The then RJD MP’s henchmen reportedly abducted three sons of Prasad and brought them to Pratappur ‘to settle’ a land dispute case.
The two sons of Chandeshwar Prasad–Satish and Girish–were bathed in acid in the presence of the MP. As a result, both of them died. According to the FIR, the MP’s henchmen cut their bodies into pieces. Incidentally, the third son Rajesh Roshan managed to flee, but he was subsequently killed by Shahabuddin’s men in 2014 in Siwan district. The former MP’s son Osama was named accused in the Roshan’s murder case.
Shahabuddin, who is facing trial in over 40 cases of murder, abduction, extortion, possessing illegal weapons and foreign currencies, has already been convicted in two other cases. This was the third case in which he has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
