Last Updated 15 December 2015, 18:24 IST
Masterchef Sanjeev Kapoor, the food celebrity of the country is all set to take the audiences on an exclusive food trail in Australia with his upcoming show titled Out of the World. Through this show, Kapoor will take his passion for food out of the conventional kitchen and share with his viewers his love for travel and adventure. In conversation with Metrolife, he tells what the show is going to be about and how the Indian tastes and preferences have changed with time. Excerpts:

Tell us about Out of the World Australia. What is the show going to be about?

With the first season of the show in Africa, we decided to have the second season in Australia. In the show, we will show the entire lifestyle, food and culture of Australia. Currently, I don’t think something like this has been captured with this intensity and sincerity. And with the response that we got for the show last year, this time it’s going to be bigger and better.

Give us a glimpse into the content of the show.

We have tried to shoot the diversity of the world and cultures through the show. We captured one continent last time (Africa) and this time we wanted to do something which was contrasting to that. We could have done Europe or other parts of Asia. But I have lived in that part of the world many years ago and I know that there are many places in Australia which are untouched and unexplored. Also, viewers these days want to engage themselves in content which they enjoy and are also informative. Thus, the show will feature the kind of food one can expect in Australia, the lifestyle of Australians, the musical instruments they make, the feeling when you’re on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and much more.

What will the format of the show be like?

The format of the show is like a travel and food format where I travel with our team and we walk through the different places. I meet the local people, the chefs and cook with them in the restaurants. At the same time we also have some fun elements with the aboriginal people, their lives and much more.

With respect to the Indian audiences, what is the purpose of the show? How is the show different from other shows aired on Food Food?

It is very different. The kind of treatment and budget for this show is much more than the other shows. That’s why we have one season of the show in a year. And not just on our channel, I don’t think this kind of show is done on this scale on TV on any channel in India. Moreover, the show is shot by an Indian, keeping in mind the Indian viewers.

Do you think Indians will like Australian cuisine?

Of course. In the show, we will find out what are the influences in Australian food. Also, we will talk about the local food in Australia which has a lot of Thai and Indian influences. And this has been growing to manifold levels now. Earlier, people were not travelling so much but today they are travelling a lot more and it has become more rewarding for them to learn and explore about new places.

Have Indians accepted world cuisines or do they still like a tinge of an Indian taste in them?

When we try to Indianise foreign cuisine, then there is adaptation. Once that barrier is broken, then we move towards providing more authentic food. A little customisation will always be there and that’s how new cuisines and new tastes are born. Earlier we didn’t have ingredients like red chillies, tomatoes and potatoes. Now we have create dishes using these ingredients and we call them authentic Indian. So we have been accepting different tastes for hundreds of years but now this has become more because the world is becoming smaller because of easy information through the internet.

What are your future prospects?

We are looking forward to a great digital penetration. Apart from the TV channel, we want to reach out to more and more people through their mobile phones. Starting December 18, the show will be featured every Friday on Food Food.
