Meet to raise awareness about kidney disease

Last Updated 17 December 2015, 20:13 IST

Thousands of stress balls, inscribed with smiley emoticons, were put together to form a large model of kidneys in an attempt to create a Guinness world record here on Thursday.

The event was part of the 46th annual conference of the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISNCON) organised by RPG Life Sciences.“The concept was developed to raise awareness and fight the battle against kidney failures with therapy. After the conference, the signed stress balls with the message ‘Smile, Sign and Share’ will be distributed to patients undergoing dialysis across the country with the hope that the gesture would boost their morale to fight the disease with a smile,” said Rajendra Patkar of RPG Life Sciences.

Organising chairman of ISNCON 2015, Dr H Sudarshan Ballal, said the conference, which will conclude on Sunday, would be an academic treat to share scientific knowledge related to nephrology. “About 1,000 nephrologists from India and abroad will take part in the event,” he said, observing that there were only 1,200 nephrologists in the country, while more than two lakh patients developed end-stage renal disease or chronic kidney disease every year in India.
