When Deccan Herald contacted him on Wednesday, Jerome said he was grateful to External Affairs Minister S M Krishna for appointing him as the ambassador. Jerome said he will be going to Delhi for a briefing by the ministry. “It may take more time before I assume office. I am yet to learn about Slovenia. I hear it is a beautiful small country,” he added.

Jerome, who will be turning 64 shortly, retired from service in 2006. He is a Bangalorean, who studied at St Joseph’s College. He obtained a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Bangalore University. He is the first non-IFS retired officer from Karnataka to become ambassador. He was the BDA commissioner during the S M Krishna regime. When Krishna became the governor of Maharashtra, he appointed Jerome as his secretary.
Slovenia is a country in Central Europe with a population of about two million and an area of 20,273 sq km.
