JD(S), Cong oppose cow slaughter bill
The State government’s move to bring in cow slaughter bill has attracted criticism from the opposition parties. The Congress and the JD(S) have said they will not support the bill when placed in the legislature.
JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda, in a press conference on Thursday, demanded that the State government should reconsider the decision.
He called the State Cabinet’s decision to introduce a bill in this regard in the coming session of the Legislature, as a hasty and impractical step. “I advise the Government not to go ahead with this misadventure. It has an immense economic fallout,” he warned.
Poor people and farmers will have no option but to kill aged and wounded animals. Moreover, the Government wants to treat consuming beef also as an offense. It is an unscientific decision and cannot be implemented, he added.
The Congress has also opposed the bill. KPCC president R V Deshpande said the party would not support the Bill if it is tabled in the House. He questioned where was the need for the bill, when there was a Central Act already on cow slaughter.
“The law is very clear on slaughter of cows. It is only the RSS agenda to keep the weaker and minorities in fear. This will cause unrest in society,” he said.
