Patna Pirates continued their dream run as they handed defending champions U Mumba a massive 40-26 defeat in the third edition of the Pro Kabaddi League at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.

On the final day of the Bengaluru leg of the tournament, the experienced Pardeep Narwal and former Bengaluru Bulls raider Rajesh Mondal propelled their side against the crowd favourites Mumba and scored their third consecutive win of the tournament.

Both sides were neck and neck for the first 11 minutes but the Pirates began to pull away at this point. After an unsuccessful raid from Mumba’s Shabeer Bapu, Manpreet Singh scored for the Pirates and with that, the lead was extended to 13-8 in favour of Patna. Pardeep continued to score on his raids while Mondal was not having the same success but not losing points either. The first half ended with Patna leading by a margin of 20-11.

With a nine-point deficit to bridge, Mumba had all the work to do but it was the Pirates again that continued to dominate the game. While Pardeep raided brilliantly, the Patna defence was keeping Mumba skipper Anup Kumar in check and ensuring their opponents coould not find a way back into the game.

With Mumba staring down the barrel at 21-37 in the 34th minute, the game was a foregone conclusion.

Pardeep and Mondal top scored with eight points apiece as Anup once again was the star of the show for Mumba bagging 9 points.
