JOIN USA group of residents from Somasundarapalya and the neighbouring HSR Layout on Saturday volunteered to revive Somasundarapalya Lake.
The members of Kudlu Gate, Harlur, Haralukunte, Somasundarapalya and Parangipalya RWA, along with pourakarmikas, cleaned the lake bank and main pathway that was filled with weeds and garbage. The drive lasted for more than three hours. Suneel Rangamani, a resident of Somasundarapalya, said in the last five years the condition of the lake had turned from bad to worse. “Sometimes we can even see froth at the lake and the bad smell emanating from the lake is unbearable. We will continue the drive and make sure the lake springs to life,” he added.
BBMP Joint Commissioner (Bommanahalli zone) Muniraju said effective microbes (EM) solution is being sprayed to clean the water and control the odour. Kavitha Reddy of ‘Hasiru Mithra’ said, “Part of the leachate from KCDC is flowing into lake. We have raised this issue with KCDC and BBMP Special Commissioner for SWM, Subodh Yadav. Rajya Sabha member Kupendra Reddy has said that he is willing to adopt the lake,” she added.
