NGO urges Guv to block move to name Justice Nayak Lokayukta

Janaadhikaara Sangharsha Parishath (JSP), an NGO, on Monday submitted a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala opposing the recommendation of Justice S R Nayak for the post of Lokayukta. Members of JSP said the Lokayukta police have not taken any action on their complaint against Justice Nayak.

“With the trying times that Lokayukta is going through, the efforts of the Siddaramaiah government point towards a dictatorial attitude and turning a blind eye to the public opinion in the process of proposing the name of Justice Nayak for the post of Lokayukta. On January 13, 2016, we had filed a complaint against Justice Nayak to Lokayukta ADGP Parashiva Murthy in connection with violation of bye-laws, fabrication of evidence and criminal misconduct under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.

Till today, owing to pressure from the government, the Lokayukta police have neither registered an FIR nor filed any report. We demand that the Lokayukta police register an FIR against Justice Nayak and act fearlessly,'' Adarsh Iyer of JSP said.

JSP members said the State Government was trying to take control of the Lokayukta institution.

“This action of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah prima facie proves that it is nothing but an act of taking control of the institution of Lokayukta so that his political adversaries, both within and outside his party, are kept in check and controlled. The Lokayukta institution needs a sincere, efficient, socially concerned, law abiding judge as Lokayukta. If the Chief Minister sends Justice Nayak's name, we hope the Governor rejects the proposal on the grounds explained in the letter to the Raj Bhavan,'' Adarsh said.
