<p>The Rs 667 crore allocated for Bengaluru Metro by the Central government will be used to carry out works for phase II of the Namma Metro, officials have said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>BMRCL officials said the funds will not be used for land purchase or acquisition but for various civil activities of the Metro phase II. “Funding is primarily meant for phase II of the Metro, which includes extensions of the four lines,” the official said.<br /><br />The money will be spent on Metro phase II, which includes lines from Hesaraghatta Cross to Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Puttenhalli Cross to Anjanapura township, Mysuru Road to Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli to ITPL, Whitefield. If the funding is adequate, money will also be spent on two new additional lines – IIMB to Nagawara and RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City.<br /><br />Funds will be utilised for construction activity, tests of different kinds, establishment of stations and pier work. The funds could also be used for salaries of the employees. “There is no restriction on the use of the funds for phase II of the Metro. <br /><br />The only thing we won’t be utilising the funds for is land purchase. It is not that the Centre has told us that we shouldn’t spend on land, but since the State government has been doing it all along, it is the right agency to take up the work.<br /><br />Basically, the money has been allotted for project work under phase II,” senior officials said.<br /><br />There is also funding of 200 million euros available for the Bengaluru Metro from a French financial agency. Additional funds coming in is good as BMRCL can speed up work and construct the Metro in time. There has been no shortage of funds reported for the Bengaluru Metro till now. <br /></p>
