<p>The changes in the procedure of counting of votes in elections to local bodies can avoid human rights violations to a good extent, said Karnataka State Human Rights Commission member C G Hungund adding that upholding human rights is essential for a better nation.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Delivering a special lecture on ‘human rights’, organised by Sarada Vilas College here, Hungund said, “In the present system, candidates can clearly get details of how many votes they have secured in a particular area or ward and thus, they may neglect particular areas in executing development works. Lack of basic facilities to citizens is also a violation of human rights.”<br /><br />“Holy books of all religions have mentioned about human rights. B R Ambedkar, Basavanna and others have highlighted the values of human rights. Human rights was drafted based on the theories of life, freedom, equality, dignity and other aspects of human life. The people should have awareness about human rights.<br />Human rights violations occur when the authorities fail to implement the laws effectively,” the chairperson of the KSHRC said.<br /><br />The human rights commission investigate the violations and provide justice to the victim. The highest number of human rights violations are being reported from the Police department, he added.<br /><br />Sarada Vilas Education Institution president B S Parthasarathi, secretary S Ravishankar, and advocate H N Venkatesh were present on the occasion.</p>
