Cook dies after eating hostel ladoos, 3 students take ill

A 58-year-old female cook died of food poisoning, while three other students were hospitalised, after consuming sweet ladoos at the Sharada Nursing Hostel near Uttarahalli in Subramanyapura police limits on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Tangy, 58, a native of Kerala. The three students - Vismay Verghese, Nandakumar and Arjun - are being treated at a private hospital and are out of danger, said the police.

Tangy, a cook at the hostel, prepared some sweet ladoos using refined wheat flour after dinner. She gave the ladoos to students and also ate some. She started vomiting some time after eating the ladoos and was rushed to a hospital, where she died on Monday morning, said the police.The three other students were also rushed to a hospital following vomiting, added the police.

Officials from the Health department visited the hostel and collected samples of the ladoos for a test.

Hostelmate held

Girish, 22, who stays in the ground floor of the hostel rushed the cook and three students to the hospital in an autorickshaw. One of the tyres of the autorickshaw got punctured at Kadirenahalli when he was returning to the hostel.

The night patrolling police reached the spot, saw him replacing the tyre and accused him of trying to steal the tyre. Girish pleaded innocence and narrated the entire incident but the police did not buy his version and took him to the police station.

The police let him free only on Monday morning after he submitted an undertaking. The police also collected Rs 500 from him, Girish’s friend Raju said. The police are looking into the matter.
