Addressing the KDP meeting on Thursday, member Manu Muthappa said that in Bhagamandala GP, certain works which have not been approved by the GP have been included in the list of works by the computer operators. He alleged the operators of doing so accepting bribe and said that they have thus misused the funds under the project. Muthappa said that such illegal works must be stopped immediately from execution.

Responding to this, the CEO said that such cases in large number have been discovered in Uttar Karnataka district, due to which crores of rupees have been misused. A team from centre is holding inquest into the same. “A Committee with DC as its president has been formed to look into misuse of funds under MGREGS. However, barring these cases, otherwise the progress of MGREGS in the district is satisfactory,” the CEO said.

He informed that though there are allegations that machineries are being used in the implementation of projects under this scheme, there are clause in the Act which permit use of machineries for certian works.

He informed that so far a total of Rs 8 crore has been spent under MGREGS in the district. Another Rs 6 crore is available and there is no dearth of funds.
