As royal as the name suggests

Authentic Chinese

They say, ‘judge a Chinese restaurant by its sesame prawn toast’. And when the sesame prawn toast is perfectly cooked and gives the pleasures of the right amount of crisp, one need not ask for more. Such are the standards that are met by Royal China, a fine dining restaurant in Nehru Place that promises to offer authentic Chinese food.

Located on the 16th floor of Eros corporate towers, one is greeted with an illuminated sky-high view of Delhi, something that we all crave for! And given the footfalls on a Tuesday night, the place is a testimony to the love for Chinese food in Delhiites.

According to some regular visitors, the restaurant has carved a niche for itself in the market in terms of not blending food with Indian cuisine (chinjabi food). Reportedly, Royal China serves the best duck in Delhi, as compared to other restaurants claiming to provide authentic Chinese like China Garden or House of Ming.

Some regular visitors also claim that this branch of Royal China has been able to meet the standards of Royal China in London.

Specialising in traditional cantonese cuisines, one can relish crispy aromatic duck with pancakes, prawn chung fun, seaweed, black bean chicken to name a few.

Metrolife started with Chicken with red chilly, a perfectly cooked and calmly spiced appetiser, something that could also match the palate of north-Indian food lovers. Within minutes we were served with Pork Puff, which is mysterious concoction of sweet buns with jiggery tasting, finely prepared pork inside.

Coupling it with mildly sweet and refreshing Vanilla Martini, we then moved on to try Sauteed prawns in chilli and black bean sauce. Soft prawns minced with mild Chinese flavours, the dish was a good pick amongst appetisers.

From the vegetarian appetisers, we gave a try to Fried crispy corn kernels with water chestnut. A cubical corn dish, so soft that it melts in the mouth! The lemon-sour water chestnut could be optional for those not fond of sour food.

Prawn cheung fun, Sea food dumpling green chilli with oil and Roast Pork bun from the appetisers could also be some of the preferred picks.

Satiated with the above, there wasn’t enough room to try the main course, yet Spicy Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken in Scheszwan sauce and Lemon fish were too difficult to resist.

Mildly spiced, fried with chicken pieced cooked to perfection, with scheszwan sauce chicken and lemon fish on its side, was something that we all try at other not-so-authentic

Chinese eating joints. Yet the one in Royal China, with its rich flavours and tempting aroma, was definitely a must try.

The highlight of the evening was the way Lemon fish was served. Covered with bowl full of rock sault, the lemon fish inside was covered with a lid in violet flames (molecular gastronomy).

Lastly, desserts like  apple or banana in toffee syrup and deep fried crispy buns with cream custard filling are bound to leave your sweet tooth satisfied to the fullest.
So head to Royal China, and experience the real taste of China from a sky-high view of Delhi.
