Moderate showers bring mercury down in North Karnataka

 Several parts of the state witnessed light showers on Sunday, bringing respite from sweltering heat.

Mild to moderate showers on Sunday brought down the temperatures in several towns of North Karnataka, including Bagalkot, Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburagi, and in Bhadravathi.

Bagalkot

Thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds lashed Bagalkot town on Sunday evening, giving some respite from scorching heat wave.

The gusty winds brought down several trees and the asbestos cement  roofs were blown off houses at several areas.

The 20-minute sustained showers caused waterlogging on several roads and the vehicular movement was affected as a result.

Gadag town and parts of the district including Mulgund, Nargund and Ron in Gadag district witnessed light showers in the evening. A cow and an ox at Kuradagi village in Ron taluk were killed by lightning strike.

Hubballi and Dharwad received mild showers for about 20 to 30 minutes on Sunday evening. The twin cities witnessed strong winds for a while.

Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi also experienced light drizzle for about five minutes on Sunday afternoon.
This was enough to bring down the temperatures, which was hovering around 40 degree Celsius, a bit.

Bhadravathi

Bhadravathi town in Shivamogga district received light rains accompanied by thunder around 6 pm.

The other parts of Shivamogga district also witnessed light showers towards the evening hours.
