Property ID woes in new areas

Last Updated 09 April 2016, 21:57 IST

For thousands of property owners in the newly added BBMP areas, the hike in tax has triggered problems galore. But even if they somehow manage to fork out the increased tax amount, online payment could prove tricky. Reason: The inaccessible property ID (PID).

In the last few years, tax-payers with PID in the old areas have found the online payment option simple. However, thousands are yet to get their PIDs and switching to the online option can get tricky. All these years, they paid their taxes either by quoting their khata number or survey number.

The new software introduced by BBMP this year allows property owners to login only through their PID or the 2008 Self Assessment Scheme (SAS) application number. There is no mention of the khata or survey number. Clarity on this critical aspect is yet to emerge.

Property owners in the new areas seeking concessions in the first month are a worried lot. They have no choice but to wait for the Palike to host the PID data.

Even for those with PID, the changes in tax zones has complicated matters. They could key in their PID and see their property details automatically filled in the tax form. But the tricky part is in selecting the new tax zone based on the guidance value of 2015. The tax-payer could identify the zone based on the ward and the location of his / her property. However, mistakes while manually filling in the details could create fresh problems.
