<p>The ordeal of property taxpayers in the city continues as complaints about the new software keep pouring in.<br /><br /></p>.<p>B S Manohar, vice president of Basavanagudi Residents' Welfare Association, had a horrid time. Using his credit card, he tried paying online the property tax of his sister Hemalatha, who resides in Vasanthnagar on Thursday. While paying the tax, he received the bank-generated One Time Password (OTP) on his mobile phone, which he typed to finalise the payment to the BBMP. Just then, the screen went blank.<br /><br />Before Manohar could fathom what happened, he received a message from the bank that the transaction is completed and payment is made but when he checked in the BBMP website, it still showed the property owner is yet to pay the tax for the current financial year.<br /><br />Manohar said, “I immediately sent an e-mail to the bank and the BBMP Deputy Commissioner M Venkatachalapathy. The bank replied to my mail saying that it will respond in five days, whereas there is no response from the BBMP so far. I sent him (Venkatachalapathy) a WhatsApp message too but there was no reply.”<br /><br />Venkatachalapathy said he has not received any such message but he would inquire into it if the Property Identification (PID) Number is provided to him.<br /><br />Poor tax collection<br />On Tuesday, the total tax collection for the current fiscal (2016-17) was Rs 24 crore. However, the numbers were not encouraging compared to previous year (Rs 1,010 crore was collected in April itself). The poor performance has prompted the Palike to conduct training for Canara Bank employees on the tax collection on Tuesday, as well. The local body had conducted a special training programme for its revenue officers (RO) and the assistant revenue officers (ARO) on Saturday.<br /></p>
