'Use law to monitor works on welfare schemes'

He asked law students to utilise the RTI Act to get information from government departments on the amount of funds allocated for various schemes. He said resources allocated for laudable purposes (by state and central governments) are getting dissipated, diverted and  knocked off by corrupt officials and beneficiaries seldom receive what is meant for them.

Justice Kumar was speaking during the inauguration of a workshop on RTI Act for principals, lecturers and students of law colleges in the City on Saturday.  Kumar suggested that teams of teachers and students fan out in rural areas and verify whether the benefits of social welfare schemes reach the beneficiaries. The judge had recently suo motu declared his assets and liabilities on his website.
