study abroad- Publish your research

Last Updated 27 April 2016, 18:32 IST

Dear Madam,
I am currently pursuing BE in mechanical engineering from NIE Mysuru. I have scored 96% in Class 10 and 95% in II PU. I wish to pursue an MBA from a reputed college abroad. I have heard that doing MBA with work experience helps a lot. I got placed in TCS and they have offered me the profile of Business Intelligence and Analysis.

Should I work for 2 to 3 years and then pursue an MBA? Which are the best colleges abroad and how can I get in? Would you please guide me?
Sagar

Dear Sagar,
If you are currently pursuing your BE, is this an internship or part time work that you are being offered? For MBA admissions, you need 2 to 3 years of post study full time work experience. We can select colleges once you decide which country you want to go to and have your GMAT and IELTS/TOEFL scores ready.

Dear Madam,
I have completed my BE in Polymer Science and Technology from SJCE, Mysuru, in 2015. I am planning to do my Master’s in Polymer Science. I wanted to know about the good universities offering this subject and also wanted to know about the scholarship opportunities for my course. Please guide me.
Kishan

Dear Kishan,
The universities that are known for Polymer Science and Technology are Free University Berlin (FU), Humboldt University Berlin (HU), Technical University Berlin (TU) and the University of Potsdam (UP) in Germany, Manchester University UK, Aalto University in Finland, Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, Technical University of Denmark, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria.

Please write the IELTS exam. The German universities will have no or very minimal fee, so you don’t have to worry about scholarships. If you have carried out any research work, have it published if possible. Prepare a strong statement of purpose and resume highlighting all your academic achievements and work experience. You can apply for a scholarship in all these universities that I have listed out. Opportunities for research assistantship and graduate assistantship are offered in these universities.

Dear Madam,
I am pursuing mechanical engineering and will graduate this year. I want to do my further studies in Germany. I have an aggregate of 64% and have no backlogs. Please guide with what examinations to take to pursue an MS in Germany and which university will suit me. I am interested Mechatronics, Automobile, Aerospace and Marine engineering. I have also undergone automobile training in at Volkswagen Coimbatore Unit. Please guide me.
Mahesh

Dear Mahesh,
Esslingen University, RWTH Aachen, Berlin Institute of Technology, Freiberg University and Ravensburg Weingarten University are some of the universities you could consider for Mechatronics, Automobile or Mechanical Engineering. University of Applied Sciences Wildau, TU Berlin and TU Munich are known for Aerospace Engineering. Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg Institute of Technology and Technical University of Berlin are good for Marine Engineering. For admission to any of the above mentioned universities, the exams you need to take are GRE and TOEFL.

Dear Madam,
I have completed my BA in English and am looking to studying MA in English in the UK. I have many questions: Firstly, is it possible to take loans? If yes, what kind? Is it better to take loans back here or there? Secondly, can girls opt for part-time jobs there while study? If yes, of what nature? Apart from MA English, are there any other related courses I could pursue? What would that course cost us per annum? I have got 60% in my Bachelors. Can you recommend a good university that offers courses in London that will accept my grades and offerscholarships?
Nivedha

Hello Nivedha,
I will answer all the questions in the order that you have asked.
Loans are possible. You have to take them in India with the regular bank who you bank with (the rate of interest at SBI is pretty competitive) or alternately you could approach somebody like HDFC Credila who specialises in student loans. As an international student you will not be eligible for student loans abroad. However, you can apply for scholarships, graduate assistantships etc.

There will be no gender discrimination when you apply for a job. You can work for 20 hours during the week while you are studying and 40 hours during holidays. You can work on campus or outside. The job may be related to the area of your study or it can be something totally unrelated. The choice is entirely yours.

The courses in UK will cost around Rs 12 lakh for the entire programme. The duration of the Master’s degree would be one year in all of UK. Apart from MA English, you could look at subjects like Journalism, Creative writing, Literature, Communication and Media studies, Cultural studies, Language and linguistics, Teaching English to speakers of foreign language, Modern and contemporary fiction etc.

I would recommend University of Westminster London for all these courses I have listed above. The University is known for its courses in English. They offer a large number of scholarships. Opportunities for part-time work, placements and work-related learning activities are available to students. To get admission here, apart from your GPA, they will look for high IELTS score and a strong creative portfolio.
