Kejriwal dares Modi to probe Sonia over chopper deal

Last Updated 29 April 2016, 10:11 IST

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday launched a twin attack on the BJP-led central government, demanding action against Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi in Agusta chopper “kickbacks” case and seeking academic details on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A day after being re-elected as Aam Aadmi Party convener for three years, Kejriwal alleged in a tweet that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government would not dare to take action against Sonia Gandhi due to the collusion between the two parties.

“I dare BJP 2 arrest Sonia ji n those cong leaders named in Italy court order n interrogate them,” Kejriwal tweeted on the AgustaWestland chopper case in which an Italian court has convicted an official of the helicopter firm.

Kejriwal expressed doubts over the BJP’s intentions and claimed that the party may
not act in the case during the rest of the five-year tenure of the Narendra Modi government.

“Why is the PM silent on Augusta? First BJP spared Vadra, now protecting entire Congress top brass in Augusta?,” Kejriwal said, referring to Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra facing allegations of wrongdoings in land deals in Haryana.

He also tweeted, “Shudn't those named in Italy court order be immediately arrested n interrogated?”

He alleged that the central government unleashed the Central Bureau of Investigation on him but it was hesitant in ordering a CBI probe against Congress leaders.

The issue of Modi’s academic details was raised by Kejriwal in a letter to the Central Information Commission which he posted on Twitter.

Reacting to a CIC direction allowing the sharing of his details, Kejriwal supported the idea but wondered why the transparency commission had imposed a bar on revealing similar details about Modi.

‘Double standards’
In his letter addressed to Information Commissioner Madabhushanam Sridhar Acharyulu, Kejriwal frowned on the commission’s ‘double standards’.

Attaching a clipping of a news report, the AAP leader said there are allegations that Modi did not hold any academic degree.

“In such a situation, the people want to know the truth. Still, you are hesitant in making public information related to him public,” Kejriwal wrote in Hindi.

He expressed surprise that the Information Commission was keen to share his details but not so interested in the case of Modi.

“Such a stand would raise doubts among people over the Commission’s impartiality. While approving release of information related to me, also show courage to make public the academic details of Modi,” Kejriwal wrote.
