Calling herself an environment conservationist and claiming to love travelling within India, Bollywood actress Dia Mirza is all set for her new expedition.

She makes her debut on Indian television by taking viewers on a fascinating journey along the Ganges with series Ganga- The Soul of India.

She says that this show has fulfilled her desire as an actress and is a travel enthusiast.
“I am a seeker and I think a lot. I believe that travelling gives me a pathway to do that. I feel that we don’t protect what we don’t know. So through my journey (in Ganga...), I try to make people fall in love with nature,” Mirza tells Metrolife.

Ganga... gives viewers a peek into the legacy that is shaped by the country’s longest river. It explores all that the river has to offer, including people, history, mythology, anthropology, adventure, music and of course the cuisine animated by its revered waters.

“I will call it an entertainment show, because it is educative, but it is also interesting and exciting. Through this show, we are telling stories of many human beings as well. We have spoken to people living on the banks of the river and NGO workers, students and environmentalists,” she says.

To start the journey, Mirza went to the source of the river, Gomukh, from where she could see its “magnificent waters gargling with clarity”. She says that was her high point in the road trip. When she reached the banks of the river in Benaras that was the lowest point.
“I could see how much people have polluted the water,” she adds.

In the show, Mirza goes wherever the river goes geographically. It starts from Gomukh and reaches the Bay of Bengal and she travels along the river’s trajectories.

“A road trip is always the best, I believe. It is slow and you can stop and talk to strangers, make new friends, know their stories and learn so much,” she exclaims.

According to her, people need to know how essential is Ganga. “It is the third largest river in the world, sustaining millions of lives and it under threat today,” she adds.

Each episode of the series is 45 minutes long. And for the 34-year-old actress, the show is not just a TV series, but it is like a book. “People can view things slowly and understand them better,” she says.

Ganga- The Soul of India will be aired on Living Foodz channel, from May 1.
