SBI unveils mVisa in B'luru

The country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) on Thursday launched mVisa, a mobile-based payment solution.

The service will enable customers to make payments from their smartphones, by simply scanning the unique merchant QR (Quick Response) code, at merchant outlets.

A card-less solution, mVisa  facilitates payment by scanning the QR code displayed at the merchant outlet or from the merchants mobile. SBI customers (both debit card holders as well as internet banking customers, having transaction rights) can now make easy payments to the merchants by simply scanning QR code image, thereby eliminating the need to swipe the physical card at a point-of-sale (PoS) machine.

SBI Anywhere app

Customers can simply download the latest version of SBI Anywhere application, from Google Play Store and need to register for mVisa payments by simply clicking the mVisa icon on the home screen.

State Bank of India CGM (Bengaluru Circle) Rajni Mishra said, “Bengaluru Circle stands third in share of alternative channels by achieving 79.65% and second in digital channels by achieving 35.30% as on March 31, 2016.”

Visa Group Country Manager (India and South Asia) T R Ramachandran said, “For the first time, Visa has launched a new product mVisa, which is made in India and will be exported to other countries.”

State Bank of India Deputy Managing Director (Corporate Strategy and New Businesses) Manju Agarwal said, “mVisa service has been introduced in Bengaluru and bank has already over 300 merchants in prominent market places. Based on the success of this project in next three months, SBI has planned to take mVisa to other cities.”
