Senior Congress leader S M Krishna on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of indulging in politics of hatred and said people will teach BJP an appropriate lesson soon.
Krishna, in a press release, said the BJP's statement to make country free of Congress is height of arrogance. In democracy, no political party can claim to decide the fate of another party. It is people who decide the fate of all political parties. The saffron party and Modi are indulging in the politics of hatred.
‘Need not panic’
“The Congress workers need not panic. We should all stand united and strengthen the hands of party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi,” he added.
He said the Congress had witnessed a similar situation in 1978. Then, the party was in power only in Karnataka and erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Some people of the rival political parties had predicted that it was the end of Congress. But the party bounced back as the people reposed faith in it, he recalled.
“In 2014 parliamentary polls, the BJP secured 17.5 crore votes while the Congress got 13 crore. How can Modi and the BJP make country free of Congress?” Krishna asked.
He said the Congress has won a total of 137 seats in the recently-held elections to five state assemblies. The BJP has managed to win only 67.
The saffron party has been running a campaign to project as if the Congress had suffered a big defeat. But, in reality, it was the BJP that has put up a poor performance, he remarked in the press release.
