Jazz up the space

This summer, welcome some radiance and vibrancy into your house. Incorporating a few techniques, some simple guidelines and a tinge of composure, do-it-yourself (DIY) projects save time and work their colourful magic. Here are some ideas that could bring a spark to your daily routine.

Be it for your child’s room or your entrance door, during a birthday party or a play date, a colourful balloon wreath will undoubtedly brighten up the spirits. All you need is a satin ribbon, balloons, pins and a cycle tyre or styrofoam wreath. Neha Modi, a professional party planner, explains, “Wrap the tyre (wreath) in a ribbon of any colour that you like.

Fold the balloon into a random pattern. Pin it in the tyre (wreath). Although slightly tedious to pin, once you get a hang of it, it becomes easy. Pin them close and keep changing the balloons as per the colour pattern you want.” To hang the wreath, use a broadsatin ribbon or lace and stick it in the centre.
A wall painting is for those with an artistic eye. A bold blend of colours, strokes of darker shades must be painted first and should slowly progress into the lighter ones to prevent the paint from mixing. Mahima Patel, a young artist, remarks, “I didn’t adopt any specific procedure but instead played with paint. The silhouette must be created only once the colours dry.” The same pattern can be used to paint your walls or doors.

Then there’s also some interesting bottle art that one can indulge in. The first step that bottle art entails is washing the bottle and leaving it to dry. Once it’s entirely dry, apply a coat of white acrylic or enamel paint on the desired area. Allow it to dry overnight. “Draw or trace the image on the white space. Use the required acrylic colours to complete the image. After it appears to have completely dried, apply 2 coats of clear varnish on the bottle surface,” expounds Rini Joshy, who converts waste into decorative items. Your bottle art is ready!
Effortless to make, dreamcatchers add an eye-catching pinch of dazzle to your room. Beads, a needle and thread, a circular object (bracelet) and a thicker thread is everything you need. Wrap the thread around the circular object and secure it at the end. Start making loops with the thread and create a hectangular shape. Once you reach the end, secure it. Continue weaving the web while ensuring that the fabric is pulled tightly. Embellish it by attaching feathers or beaded strings. Voila! you’ve got yourself a dreamcatcher.

You can also transform your basic phone covers and give them a fetching look. Yes, you read it right.  Pick out a plain and monochromatic cover and go wild with colours. You could use nail polish or stickers lying idle at home. Or you can splatter the cover with paint, stick tattooes on a blank cover glue, plaster colourful scotch duct tape and even glue magazine cutouts. Customize them now!
