Smriti, Cong leader engage in war of words on Twitter

Last Updated 23 May 2016, 20:01 IST
Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on Monday engaged in a fierce war of words with each other on Twitter.

The spat began with a user’s tweet about a political debate on a television channel and swiftly escalated into an ugly slugfest between the two leaders on the micro-blogging site.

Though the bitter war of words between Irani and Chaturvedi ended with both wishing “a good day and glorious day” to each other, the departing words of courtesy exchanged by the two leaders were ostensibly bereft of the warmth they carry in their usage.

“@priyankac19 dats more Rahulji's forte. Oh wait, losing Assam is. My bad. Have a good day,” Irani tweeted, ending the spat after exchanging a series of bitter tweets with the Congress leader.

The Union Minister also deleted most of her tweets later. In a swift response to Irani, Chaturvedi also took a break from the bitter war of words, tweeting, “Repeatedly losing and yet becoming a minister in the cabinet is your forte. You have a glorious day too @smritiirani.

The bitter war of tweets began between the two politicians with one Shefali Vaidya’s tweet, questioning the double standards between the verbal attacks on a Congress spokesperson and Smriti Irani.

“When @priyankac19 is trolled, it is an attack on 'dignity of women'but poisonous slander against @smritiirani is acceptable, (sic)”.
