Sadashivanagar Cycle Day to be held on May 29

Last Updated 23 May 2016, 20:36 IST
Mark your calendar on May 29 as the second edition of ‘Sadashivanagar Open Streets Cycle Day’ is back. This time bigger and better. An array of fun-filled activities will be held all through the day at Sankey Tank premises.

The event, organised by Sadashivnagar Residents’ Welfare Association, in partnership with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), aims to have a traffic-free street and to encourage community building among the public.

From modern activities such as zumba, skateboarding to traditional ones such as kantharagam - puppet stories, tonga rides, and kavade - the event has exciting programmes lined for the whole day.

Food carts and trucks will serve varied delicacies at the venue to satiate the taste buds. The event will be held at Sankey Lake entrance (Sadashivanagar side), Flower Park and Lake Road.

There will be awareness sessions on segregation and composting also. The organisers, who have partnered with Hasirudala, an NGO, recently installed four leaf composting units in Sankey Park and Ramana Maharishi Park to put fallen leaves into good use.

“The first edition of the cycle day was well attended and we are expecting over 1,000 people this time,” said the organisers.

Children and adults taking part in the cycle ride will be provided with cycles at the venue on showing their ID proof, in case they do not have one. The participation is free and the event will go on till 4 pm.
