The fruits of perseverance

Last Updated 25 May 2016, 18:51 IST

The jubilation is clearly in the air. For the students who topped the second PUC exams this year, it has been a saga of hard work and disciplined effort. On the august occasion, they dedicate their gratitude to their family and  teachers for the untiring support and guidance.

“I wasn’t very serious about my exams. My preparation level seemed pretty average to me,” says Rahul and for someone who topped in his college, this seems surprising. “It is important to have a proper balance in your life,” he says. “I attended drawing and music classes to relax.”

Muruli Krishna is ecstatic about his son’s performance. “We are very happy. We were expecting him to score well but not to this level. Rahul has achieved this feat entirely through his own efforts. We only facilitated his learning process.”

Rahul is grateful to his teachers for having supported and encouraged him and has a word of advice for his juniors. “It is more than enough if you concentrate in class. Also, one should not study all the time. Engaging in extracurricular activities is also important.”

He has joined for BCom (Hons) in Christ University and wants to do Chartered Accountancy after that.

Malavika B says that she studied for 5 hours daily and concentrated more on languages as that was her weak point. “I believe that systematic studies always help. I had my share of fun this year as well. My college and teachers supported me a lot. I was not under pressure and wasn’t nervous before my exams.” Her father adds, “She is a very intelligent girl. She used to regularly study. She wishes to pursue Chartered Accountancy. I am also a chartered accountant and I am happy that she will be following my footsteps. She would clarify her doubts on accountancy with me. The credit also goes to her college as they built a very strong foundation and adopted a structured methodology in teaching.”

A delighted Vaishnavi says that she didn’t expect to top her college. “I used to come within the top 10 in my class. But I didn’t expect to top for the board exam because the competition is tight. There are a lot of people in my college who are extremely intelligent and hardworking. But I wasn’t scared or nervous as I used to study everyday.”

“I am a dancer and didn’t compromise on it this year. My lecturers were also very supportive and encouraged me to aim higher. I wish to pursue my Chartered Accountancy later.”

Her father Sudhakar says, “We only supported her by buying the necessary books, reference materials and guides. This result is only because of her effort. She used to study till 11 pm and wake up at 4 am. She would take frequent breaks and watch TV, read novels and play with her sister. She made it a point to revise everyday and I think this is what helped her.”

Everything happens at the right time and the time is just right for Abhilash who has come out in flying colours. “It feels good, I had put a lot of effort for my exams. I would say it was a combined effort of my parents, teachers and me. I was expecting about 95%, I am happy I got this much,” he says. Abhilash scored 100 in Accountancy, 99 in Statistics and Business Studies, 98 in French, 96 in Economics and 91 in English. He aspires to be a Chartered Accountant and says he loved Accountancy the most. Thanking god and his teachers, Abhilash’s father G Venkatramana says, “I feel I’m on the top of the world. He has worked hard and we are so proud of him. He was good in studies from the beginning and with his positive attitude has proved his potential once again. We are blessed to have him as our child. He is special.”

He thanks the school principal and teachers for their support throughout.

Sandhya Sivamurugan

Sandhya attributes her success to her teachers and is happy that her hard work has finally paid off. She says the feeling is amazing. “Always respect your teachers — that is the most important thing in a student’s life. I want to have a food empire of my own and write a fiction. I have joined BBA in Christ University. I am ready to take any challenge that life throws at me,” she says.

Her mother Sheethal S says she always knew how good Sandhya was at her studies and this didn’t come as a surprise.

“I was rather calm and cool. She was always great at studies and we never pressurised her. She is capable of doing great in life. I feel thankful that I chose this school. Sandhya has come out to be an independent and matured individual.”

Chaitanya Girish

Vanitha Girish says she was expecting this result from her daughter. “She worked really hard so we were expecting her to do very well. Except for providing moral support, our role was not much. It is Chaitanya herself who prepared a timetable. She has been focussing entirely on her studies since January.”

Chaitanya credits her success to her practice of studying everyday. “I did not stick to a timetable but instead read whatever I felt like reading. And I did that with 100% concentration.” She does not have any advice for her juniors as such but says that since there is so much competition, “It is the quantity of knowledge that you acquire while reading that is more important than just rote learning.”

She plans to take up Electronics Engineering with Communication.

Nandita Murthy

An elated Nandita says, “I worked hard everyday. I didn’t go for any coaching classes nor did I compromise on any co-curricular activities. My parents and teachers guided and supported me. I was expecting a good rank as I used to score good marks in my college exams. However, I didn’t expect to top at all. I wish to pursue Engineering and have written my CET exams. Hopefully, I will secure a good seat there as well.” Her father, Murthy says that his daughter is a very dedicated and hardworking student. “She topped in her 10th standard as well so I was confident that she would do well now also.”

Mayur Shivakumar

It’s a proud moment for Mayur Shivakumar as the results have left him feeling high. He says, “I’m very proud of my results and it’s great that my hard work has paid off. I worked quite hard for all my subjects and it’s wonderful that it showed in my grades.”

The young lad started preparing for his exams since the beginning of the academic year with tuitions and scheduled studies. He hopes to do his Engineering
in Computer Science and later on do his Masters in the same.

“I’m waiting for my CET results so that I can apply to some of the best
colleges. Till then, I’m just relaxing and enjoying my time.”
