JOIN USA 32-year-old married man allegedly consumed acid and died following a fight with his wife in Northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar area on Monday night. Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide and questioning of his wife is underway.
The deceased identified as Nagesh has left a handwritten note which he wrote while being treated at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. In the note he has blamed his wife and her ‘uncle’ for his death. Police are finding out the authenticity of the letter.
“Prima facie the man died after consuming acid. A note purportedly written by the deceased has also been found which has been sent for forensic analysis. We are questioning his wife,” said Veenu Bansal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast).
An accountant with a jeweller in Ramnagar, Nagesh married Manju, who is three years elder to him, on November, 2012, said Nagesh’s brother.
On Monday around 1 am, Nagesh’s parents got a call from his neighbours that he has swallowed something and consequently his condition is deteriorating.
“When I reached at his house he was vomiting. He told me that his wife and her uncle both thrashed him after an argument with his wife. After that they forced him to consume acid,” said Sushil, Nagesh’s brother.
Nagesh was taken to GTB hospital where during operation he died. Nagesh’s brother alleged that his wife was in an illicit relationship with her relative whom she refers to as her uncle.
“He was not her real uncle. He was the one who brought the proposal of marriage with my brother to us. We reluctantly agreed to the proposal, but since his marriage Nagesh had been living like an outsider in his own house,” said his brother.
According to Nagesh’s brother, although Manju was married to Nagesh but actually she was in love with her so-called uncle. Since they couldn’t have married due to the social stigma attached to such relationship, she married Nagesh but maintained her closeness with her alleged lover.
His brother also suspected that the father of her 2-and-half year old daughter could be her uncle and not Nagesh.
“They plotted the marriage with my brother. In the eyes of society she was happily married with my brother but in reality she was in an intimate relationship with her so-called uncle. Her uncle who teaches Accounts in a college had threatened to my brother of dire consequences if the secret comes out ever. There used to be fight between the couple over this issues,” Sushil added.
