Walk like a breeze

Trendy jumpsuits
Last Updated 26 May 2016, 18:41 IST

It may have been a trend rocking the 70s, but the comfortable silhouette that it is, it isn’t surprising that it is still one of the much sought-after outfits among fashion lovers.

Jumpsuits happen to be a must-have apparel in the closet this season and this trend has taken the fashion world by storm.

This look gives out a very chic and cool, yet a refined and poised look to the wearer. The attire is designed for any body type and looks good on both young and old.

“Jumpsuits were a big part of the retro and disco era, however, since fashion is considered cyclic, the trend has surfaced again in the last 5 years. It has gained a lot of popularity again and the trend is here to stay,” says designer Shruti Sancheti. Highlighting the trends, she says that the ones seen this season are those that lay emphasis on the shoulders.

“Off shoulder, cold shoulder, peasant shoulder with frills and wide legs are trending. There is also a lot of emphasis given on bare backs and cutouts.” she says.

“There is no rule for materials and we can see jumpsuits in knits, cotton, handlooms and silk. Even sheer fabrics with lining can be seen as the common favourites,” she adds.
A jumpsuit, Shruti points out, can be sported on formal or casual occasions.

On how one can innovate this style, she says, silk, tweed and heavy knits on dark colours look great in the night, whereas prints and light knits work well for brunches. Throwing a jacket over a jumpsuit can give a great formal look.

She also stresses that the jumpsuit sari trend is also getting popular. According to her, chokers and high heels look great with jumpsuits. Colours that people can look forward to this season are grey, black, blue, teal and emerald, along with pretty pastels like canary yellow, aqua and mint.

“It is an easy and light summer wear and it depends on how well one carries it off,” says designer Anjali Jani.

The most trending patterns complementing the season, she says, are short jumpsuits. “People are looking for  comfort clothing and not  structured or figure hugging ones. So they tend to go for the flowing silhouettes. One can dress it up by adding a belt or button to the upper part of the outfit. This can also give the needed ‘oomph’ factor,” she adds.

Anjali points out that jackets, belts and scarfs are the three things that are enough to heighten one’s jumpsuit look. She also points out that jumpsuits with silhouettes and clean lines are trending and the colours catching the eye are neutral hues (like whites and beige).   Darker hues (either in solid colours or prints) are not lagging behind either.

“Jumpsuit is a global wear and the use of lace, floral prints and embroidery are doing rounds in the market.

Apart from these, more romantic patterns like the frills and ruffles and boho-chic with Oriental influences are also seen,” adds  Anjali.
