<p>The next big reform for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government will be to make India a citizen friendly tax country by broadening the income tax net and shortening rates for individuals tax payers. <br /><br /></p>.<p>To find a way forward to achieve this objective, Modi will personally talk the top income tax officials next month.<br /><br />The conference of tax officials, expected to take place in the national capital between June 15-16, will also deliberate on how to ensure better services to tax payers and redress their grievances without delay.<br /><br />This is the first time the prime minister is addressing the conference of tax officials. Earlier, the yearly event used to be addressed by the finance minister of the country. The prime minister is expected to jointly address the officials of direct and indirect tax department and interact with them.<br /><br />“The tax administration has to be smoothened and an atmosphere needs to be created where more and more people come forward to pay taxes. For this tax rates have to be reasonable,” said a senior official, adding, it is for this purpose that the prime minister will intract with officials. This will also be a morale booster for them. On the indirect tax side, the focus will be on how to make manufacturing in India more prosperous. <br /><br />In the past many months, manufacturing has taken a hit due to various reasons and non-friendly tax regime is also one of them.<br /><br />Officials said that the prime minister will also reward the best performers among the tax officials. In order to ensure better working of tax department officials, Modi had suggested bringing out a new performance appraisal system for the officers which has now been notified.<br /><br />Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is expected to address the tax officials on the concluding of the two-day conference. Jaitley had earlier said that his aim was to lower income tax rates gradually when the economy picks up pace.<br /></p>
