Two MTech students of East West College of Engineering, who were recently arrested for sending threatening e-mails in the name of their professors to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), had sent a similar mail to RV College of Engineering (RVCE) principal demanding Rs 10 lakh.

The police said that during the interrogation of the arrested students, Hoysala and Raghavendra, it came to light that they had sent a threat mail to RVCE principal Prof Subramanya.

They had sent the e-mail about a month ago stating that they would place low-intensity bombs on the RVCE campus if the principal did not pay them Rs 10 lakh. They had also attached three pictures of East West College of Engineering professors claiming them to be close associates of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, the police said.

Prof Subramanya approached the police after the duo was arrested recently and lodged a complaint. He said that the staff had not taken the mail seriously then as the campus had over 150 CCTV cameras and a proper security apparatus was in place.

Prof Subramanya came to know about the mail ID details after the police arrested Hoysala and Raghavendra. The duo confessed to have sending a mail to Prof Subramanya, said the police.

The students had sent threatening e-mail to KIA in the name of their professor claiming that planes would be hijacked by Dawood Ibrahim’s gang.

They told the police that they were unhappy with their professors for awarding less marks and hence indulged in such an act.
