Open Street at Sadashivanagar gets overwhelming response

The “Sadashivanagar Cycle Day,” an open street event which was held on Sankey Tank Road received overwhelming response from the residents on Sunday.

Visitors engaged themselves in activities like cycling, tonga rides, stake boards, as early as 6.45 am. The event was organised by Sadashivanagar Residents’ Welfare Association (community partner), in partnership with Bangalore Coalition for Open Streets (BCOS) and Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT). 

Sadashivanagar RWA members expressed that the objective of the programme was to have a traffic-free street and encourage community building among public. Apart from children, even adults took part with equal gusto. Vijay N, one of the participants said: “It was a wonderful experience to enjoy a traffic-free road on a Sunday. I enjoyed cycling the most.”

President of Sankey Park Walkers’ Association, A R Anand who came along with his friends early morning, said that such events should happen on a regular basis. “It is good to see visitors not worrying about traffic,” he added.

An awareness session on segregation and composting was also held. “The first edition of the cycle day was well attended and this time also, the response has been good.

We are planning to hold such events at regular intervals,” said the organisers.
