The fifth edition of the Louis Philippe Cup will kick off here on Wednesday with the Chandigarh team making a comeback after two years and the organisers extending the tournament to four days.

Encouraged by the excellent reception in Bengaluru, the event will be staged at the Karnataka Golf Association for a third time that will see the cream of the domestic PGTI circuit, including established names like SSP Chawrasia and Gaganjeet Bhullar, vie for supremacy in the eight team event.

Other golfers who are bound to be followed keenly in the 72-hole strokeplay event are local pros S Chikkarangappa, Khalin Joshi and Udayan Mane as well as Subhankar Sharma, Chiragh Kumar, Mithun Perera and Himmat Rai.

“The moment we knew we were getting the event again, we started working on getting the course ready to its best,” said KGA president Venkat Subramaniam at a press conference here on Monday. “We had a punishing summer but the rains over the last few days have come at the right time.

“The course is in great shape and I’m sure the players will once again enjoy their time here. We hope this year too the event is well received.”

To kick things off, the pro-am will be played on Tuesday with acclaimed film director Mani Ratnam, actor R Madhavan, former pace bowlers Ajit Agarkar and Venkatesh Prasad, former athlete Ashwini Nachappa and former hockey goalkeeper Ashish Ballal set to test their golfing skills.

Honour for KGA
The KGA is one of the widely respected courses amongst players and golfing afficionados and it received another feather in its cap. The Asia Sports Tourism Summit 2016 named it as one of the top 10 outstanding golf destinations in South Asia.
