The state government on Monday submitted before the High Court that a physical verification of documents filed with the applications seeking admission under Right to Education (RTE) Act, will be conducted before the second round of admissions.

Based on the submission, the division bench of Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath directed the government not to conduct selection of candidates till the physical verification of testimonials was completed.
A PIL was filed by Janaadhikaara Sangharsha Parishath (JSP) challenging the rejection of 86,514 applications by the Department of Public Instructions. The petitioner said that 34,027 applications filed seeking admission under RTE were rejected citing invalid caste certificates and 21,518 applications were rejected on the ground that Aadhar or EPIC addresses did not match. Further, 29,586 applications were rejected stating they were duplicate and 1,113 applications were rejected by the BEOs on other grounds.
The PIL sought another opportunity for the candidates in the second round of seat allotment under RTE. During the hearing, the government informed the court that the Department of Public Instructions has issued a circular directing the authorities to make physical verification of the documents attached along with the applications, in case of any discrepancy.
