<p>A host of programmes have been organised to mark the World Environment Day in the city on Sunday. <br /><br />From painting exhibitions to workshops, tree plantations to drawing competitions, several interesting events are lined up this year. Cycling enthusiasts can head to the Quality Grounds in Pattabhirama Nagar, Jayanagar, where a cycle rally will start at 8 am. <br /><br />Hasiru Mithra, a citizens’ group, along with Kaagaz Foundation, is holding a ‘treeathon’ during which saplings will be planted in the lake bed of Somasundarapalya lake at 6.30 am. “Nearly 200 saplings were planted on Saturday and 60 more will be planted on Sunday. The saplings are of medicinal, herbal, ornamental and flowering varieties. Last year, we planted 3,000 saplings. This time, the target is 15,000,” said Kavitha Reddy, a volunteer with Hasiru Mithra. Similar plantation drives will take place at CQAE (WE) Jalahalli camp road, Yeshwantpur and at the Bangalore Diary campus on Marigowda Road. <br /><br />If you have children aged eight to 14, take them to a fun art installation and poster design contest at Lalbagh. <br /><br />An upcycle workshop that includes activities such as weaving and coiling will be held at VR Bengaluru in Whitefield. Along with this, you can learn sketching with charcoal, kitchen gardening and hear experts explain such topics as composting, natural food and farming at the event. <br /><br />With so many programmes scheduled, Bengalureans are spoilt for choice. The school will take up the initiative to turn waste into compost, by providing each class with a pair of bins and fertilizer powder. The waste food items will be put into those bins which will in turn generate compost within a month. Besides, the students of the school cleaned the neighbourhood and conducted a sapling drive.<br /></p>
