St Aloysius College gets CPE tag

Mangalore, Feb 27, DHNS:

St Aloysius College (Autonomous) in Mangalore has been declared College with Potential for Excellence (CPEs).

According to a press release, of the 149 colleges selected for this honour of Colleges with Potential Excellence during this third phase, St Aloysius College features for its excellent infrastructure and quality education and socially relevant outlook to education.

During each plan, the University Grants Commission (UGC) accords this status of “College with Potential for Excellence” to recognise the potential and merit of educational institutions and to encourage them to excel further. Consequently, the selected university/ college gets fillip for further research and infrastructural development.

Under the jurisdiction of Mangalore University, only two educational institutions, including St Aloysius College, have received this special recognition, whereas in the State, 21 colleges are recognised as CPEs.

Earlier, the College had gone in for a re-accreditation of with UGC’s National Accreditation and Assessment  Council (NAAC) in December 2009, and the NAAC, on the inspection and recommendation of its Peer Team had accorded the College with a rare ‘A’ grade.
