The versatility of denim is what makes it universally appealing, says fashion designer Narendra Kumar who feels that denim works wonderfully with almost anything in the wardrobe. “You can create as many looks as possible with just a pair of classic denim.

From being the most durable and comfortable fabric back in 1700s, denim has evolved over the years, and now, with advancements in technology and infrastructure, denim serves as the most wearable fabric across the globe,” says Kumar, who is also creative director, Amazon Fashion, India.

“With innovations in the fabric industry, denim has evolved from just being a durable fabric to a fabric that meets the various need points of today’s generation,” he adds.

If last season saw the surfacing of denim shirt dresses, dungarees, shift dresses, smock dresses with a lot of floral-embroidery, Kumar says this season the trend has been captured in much higher spirits. “We are witnessing a lot of embellishments and patchwork on jeans in various cuts and styles. We will also see denim dungarees, denim jumpsuits, denim dresses in flared, straight and boxy fits and trench coats,” he says.

Kumar, who has been in the industry for over a decade, suggests giving a personal touch to denim, and be free to experiment.

Elaborating on his personal style, he says, “My current favourite style is the ‘India Modern’ look that very artistically blends denim with traditional kurtas.”

“Pair your denim jeans with a knee length kurta and top it with a denim trucker jacket and sneakers. Cuff your denim jeans to give it a more edgy look. The looks that I have created are available on the Amazon Fashion store,” he adds.
