A woman, who had approached the police to lodge a complaint, was allegedly made to ''massage'' a senior cop at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, about 100 kilometres from here.

Women activists in Hardoi held demonstrations to protest the alleged incident and demanded immediate dismissal of the sub-inspector from service and registration of a case against him.

According to the report the woman, who was not identified, had approached the cops at Kotwali police station on Thursday in connection with lodging a complaint.

A sub-inspector, who was on duty there, however, allegedly told the woman that her complaint would be registered only if she gave him a ''massage''.

The matter came to light after the photographs showing the woman giving the cop, who lived inside the police station premises and was shirtless, ''massage'' appeared on the social networking sites. The photographs also purportedly show her husband sitting close to the cop.

Women's organisations held demonstrations in the town to protest the incident and burnt effigy of the cop. They demanded his sacking. A memorandum was also submitted to the chief minister through the local officials by the women activists.

A senior police official in the district however claimed that the woman sold 'desi' oils prepared from local herbs, which were used in joint pains, and that she was not a complainant. The official also claimed that the woman was only trying to ''teach the cop as to how to use the oil''.

The incident comes barely a month after pictures showing a dalit cobbler, who had approached the cops at a police station in Meerut district, polishing the boots of the police personnel. The cobbler said that he had gone to lodge a complaint about theft of his cell phone but the cops asked him to polish their boots if he wanted his complaint to be registered.
