New varsity in Bellary will start functioning today
Campus has 92 acres, additional land to be acquired soon
The Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University will commence functioning on Sunday at the postgraduate centre in the outskirts of Bellary, announced Minister for Higher Education Aravind Limbavali.
Speaking to reporters at the centre on Saturday, he said, S A Bari, who served as the director of Distant Education Department at the Kuvempu Varsity, has been appointed as the special officer for the varsity.
Facilities
All necessary facilities, including financial assistance, will be provided to the varsity at the earliest, he said. Postgraduate courses that are being conducted at nine locations in 84 colleges in Bellary and Koppal districts will come under the purview of this university. The campus has 92 acres of land and district in charge Minister G Janardhana Reddy has issued directions to the revenue department officials to acquire additional land that is necessary for the varsity, he said.
Nominal funds for the varsity will be allocated in the coming budget and after it is utilised further funds will be released, he explained.
Since mining activities are intense in the district, the government will seriously consider any proposal to introduce undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in mining, he informed.
When quizzed about the lack of facilities at Sandur post graduation Centre at Nandihalli, he said he would visit the place and look into it.
