Enjoy slice of Malnad in City

Bangalore: Feb 27, DHNS:

The two-day Malnad Mela, an event to popularise traditional food items and local arts of Malnad region in the urban areas, began in Bangalore on Saturday. As many as 100 traditional items are displayed at No 4, Ashley Road, Off Brunton Road, behind Ajanta hotel on MG Road.

Vanastree, an organisation based in Sirsi, has been organising the mela in Bangalore for the last three years. A similar event has been organised in Sirsi for the last 10 years.
Indigenous seeds, forest foods, traditional snacks, spices, honey, hand-sewn patchwork pieces, dairy and poultry products, mud paintings, natural incense, areca leaf plates, vegetable hair dyes are available at the event.

Sunita Rao of Vanastree said that objective of the event was to introduce the rural items to the urban world. For the last three years there had been very good response from the
public.
