A top militant leader and his aide, who had surrendered to the Manipur Police in 2014 and housed in the highly secured compound of the 7th Manipur Rifles complex, were found shot dead on Wednesday.

The two were found dead in the “safe house” inside the security forces’ compound.
This incident has left the entire security establishment in a tizzy in the north-eastern state.

According to highly placed sources in Manipur Police, two surrendered militants including former chairman of banned militant group PREPAK-VC, Ningombam Nabachandra alias  Nongdrenkhomba, were shot dead inside the 7th MR Complex at Khabeisoi near state capital Imphal around 8.30 pm on Tuesday night.

Leisangthem Sanjit Singh, alias Chingkhei, was also found at the spot, sources added.
Nongdrenkhomba had been underground for three decades and had surrendered with his close aide Chingkhei to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh in 2014 and since then he had been housed in the highly secure confines of 7th MR complex.

The police claim that the incident might have happened when the security forces were busy with the festivities of a local festival Lai Haraoba.
