She was one of the strong and motivated contestants on the current season of ‘MasterChef Australia’ (Season 8). She always had a positive vibe about her that showed in her style of cooking as well.

Inspired in the kitchen by both her mother and mother-in-law, Theresa Visintin showcased all her skills on the show before she was eliminated. She amazed the judges with her dishes, personality and dedication towards cooking. In a chat with Anila Kurian, she shares some of her kitchen stories.

Tell us a little about your life before ‘MasterChef Australia’.

My life was beautiful, it was everything I wanted it to be. I am happily married with three kids who always kept me on my toes. I had a rather normal life where I loved managing both my work and family life.

What was it like cooking with your brother Jimmy Wong on the show?

The kitchen would get so busy that I didn’t really have time to think about anything else other than my cooking. But it was certainly nice to have him in the house where we could enjoy a good conversation and sip our coffees. It was definitely emotional for both of us but we were there for each other.

When you both were eliminated, what was the first thing that you did?

(Laughs) Went over to Jimmy’s house for a cup of coffee.

A dish you wish you could recreate.

The judges like something sour, crunchy, sweet, hot and cold. I’d work around that and make a dessert. A dish you would like to take credit for inventing. Ice cream!

Your comfort food.

Any type of pasta.

A three-ingredient dish you could share a recipe for.

Flour, sugar and beer make a beer bread. So easy and delicious.

Your favourite ingredient.

I can’t do without onions and garlic.

Your favourite thing apart from cooking.

Acting.

It’s your last weekend on earth. Which city are you eating in?

In Sydney with close family.

Any pet peeves?

People being mean and arrogant for no reason.

A song you sing while cooking.

‘Just keep swimming’ from ‘Finding Nemo’.

(‘MasterChef Australia Season 8’ airs at 9 pm on weekdays on Star World and Star World HD)
