Nanjudappa panel report: works in Kadur, Tarikere taluks reviewed

Venkata Rao Y Ghorpade, chairman, Committee for Implementing Dr D M Nanjun dappa Committee Recommendations, said a total of 114 taluks have been identified as backward taluks and Rs 10,338 crore has been spent in the last eight years for the development of these taluks.

He was chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the committee’s report with respect to Kadur and Tarikere taluks at Zilla Panchayat Hall here on Friday.
Ghorpade said a committee was set up under the chairmanship of economist Dr D M Nanjundappa to suggest measures for the development of backward taluks in the year 2000. The committee submitted its report in 2002. According to the report, Kadur taluk has been identified as the more backward taluk and Tarikere taluk has been identified as backward taluk, he added.

He said eight years were provided to take measures for the development of the project. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has extended the time period for the next three years with more funds.

Ghorpade said Rs 63 crore out of the total Rs 72.67 crore released for Kadur taluk has been spent. Rs 152.69 crore has been utilised out of Rs 156.75 crore grants released towards Tarikere taluk, he added.

He said the the 114 backward taluks have been categorised into four zones. Twenty-eight taluks have been identified in Kalburgi zone, 31 in Belagavi, 33 in Bengaluru and 22 in Mysuru zones. Among these, 39 are most backward, 40 are more backward and 35 are backward taluks.

Out of the grants released by the government, Kalburgi zone will be allocated 40 percent, Balagavi will be provided 20 percent, Bengaluru zone will get 25 percent and Mysuru zone will receive 15 percent grants, he said.

A report must be submitted after categorising the development works into infrastructure and communication, sponsored programmes, facilities and services and capacity building and training programmes. The follow-up should be made from the very first day by preparing link documents. Revenue generating development works should also be focused upon, he said.

Zilla Panchayat Vice President S N Ramaswamy Shettygadde, Chief Executive Officer Dr R Ragapriya, Additional Deputy Commissioner M L Vaishali, Zilla Panchayat member Anitha and the district-level implementation officers were among those present in the meeting.
