Couple held for murder of ragpickers

The Central police have arrested a couple in connection with murder of two ragpickers near VV Puram on June 25.

Police have identified the arrested as Raja (30) and Sowmya (23), both residents of Kolar. The two special police teams questioned ragpickers in Visveswarapuram and City Market area and established the identity of the victims - Umesh and his wife Kutty who were bludgeoned to death, said DCP (South) Sharanappa.

It was learnt from one of the ragpickers that Raja and Sowmya, also ragpickers, had fought with the victims around three months ago and had even attacked them with acid.

They were detained the suspects near Victoria Hospital and they confessed to the crime during the interrogation, said the police.
