It's raining colours

Last Updated 28 June 2016, 18:34 IST

Monsoons are all about adding functionality to your wardrobe while being chic and trendy. With the summer seeing pastel delights, a barrage of bright and jewel tones will be in style during the rains.

Extending their popularity are the bright and rich Bijoux palette, which collectively include colours such as hot pink, ruby red, royal blue, lapis lazuli, canary yellow and bottle green.

With bright monochrome colours in vogue, corporate suits for women, coordinated crop tops and skirt separates, culottes and pants and short or midi dresses make for befitting Monsoon outfits. Infuse luxe tones of emerald, ruby, sapphire and topaz to gowns and evening dresses and tuxedos and suits for men to make a style statement like none other. These colours look fabulous any time of the day or night.

Our tryst with pastels is still going strong. Think delicate lace, dewy pearlised colours such as mint green, rose quartz, powder blue, glacier grey and custard yellow.

Short cocktail dresses in chalky shades and light fabrics such as mul and tulle, fuss-free georgettes, silk organza and lace; sports tunics; lehengas; gowns and even sarees in soft colours and lighter fabrics will be easy to carry and maintain during the rains. Accessories right from your plastic slip-on shoes, PVC boots and bags to lacy brollies make it a year to be subtly elegant.

With trouser breaks going up a notch, men will be seen walking in slim and uber stylish ankle length slim pants. From dark hues ranging from the navy, chocolate brown and black to bright colours such as yellows, blues and reds, invest in a pair or two as these are here to stay.

With coordinated jackets that make a distinct style statement, choose a versatile look that takes you from the Monsoon into the winter with ease and adds to your personal charm. For grooms, deconstructed sherwanis which are teflon coated are a perfect choice.

Brides-to-be can go for bright, happy, playful tones such as tangerine, yellow, coral and royal blue. Lehengas with a light translucent layering of beautiful fabrics in romantic tones which are lightly embellished or embroidered will also be quite a favourite. Opt for bold threadwork; add a little shimmer for a glamorous bridal look.

The trick to add to your collection is by making it eclectic yet practical. Include statement accessories that enhance your outfit. From plastic boots, bright PVC ballet flats for women and bags to scarves and stoles in light, airy and vibrant fabrics for both men and women, bring your Monsoon look together with the right accessories that make you stand out.
